Innovating optical systems made easy - with multiphysics simulation

In many different industries, optics and photonics are crucial enabling technologies. The research and development of optical components, whose sizes range from subwavelength range to optically massive devices, is accelerated and made more cost-effective in major part by multiphysics modeling. Because of its distinctive multiphysics modeling capabilities, COMSOL Multiphysics® is widely used in the optical business. Users may predict and optimize these couplings, taking advantage of the advantages to develop improved product ideas or suppress undesirable impacts. Optics and photonics related modeling methods and trends will be covered in this talk.

Justus Bohn joined COMSOL in 2021 as a technical sales and application engineer. He studied physics at the University of Jena, Germany, and researched at the University of Syndey, Australia. For his PhD, he joined the Centre for Doctoral Training in Metamaterials at the University of Exeter, UK

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
