PEM2017 is an international workshop devoted to the research, development, and application of photonics in electromagnetic measurements and closely related fields, such as fiber-optic signal transmission, photonic signal processing, display integrated antennas, and photonic device technology.
The PEM workshop was initiated by the PEM Technical Committee of the Japanese Institute of Electronic, Information and Communication Engineers (IEICE). The first workshop – held in Kyoto, Japan in 2015 – attracted more than 50 attendees and featured over 50 presentations and posters. To strengthen the international focus of the PEM Technical Committee, this second workshop is being organized by the Foundation for Research on Information Technologies in Society (IT’IS Foundation), with the technical support of Prof. Hiroshi Murata (Osaka University), the chair of the IEICE PEM Technical Committee. The IT’IS Foundation, led by Prof. Niels Kuster, is an independent, non-profit research institute closely associated with the ETH Zurich, with a global reputation as a center of competence for computational and experimental research on electromagnetic fields and applications. Zurich city is famous as an incubator for high-tech start-ups and is home to Google's largest office outside the USA. A multicultural atmosphere and excellent international airport connections make Zurich an ideal venue for attracting workshop attendees from around the world.
