Exactly 20 years ago, in 2002, the Institute of Applied Physics (IAP) of the University of Bern (UniBe) was given the opportunity to install an industrial fiber optic drawing tower in a stairwell of the Exact Sciences building.
One year later, in June 2003, the stairwell was converted into a full-fledged "fiber drawing pit". Again, 6 months later, the first neodymium fiber laser could be commissioned with with a home-grown fiber.
Today, 20 years later, the drawing tower was moved and expanded to the new SIPBB premises. It is a pleasure to present the fiber drawing tower at its new location to a wide audience.
The inauguration of the fiber optic tower of the University of Bern (UniBe), the Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH) and Switzerland Innovation Park Biel/Bienne (SIPBB) will take place on May 18, 2022 from 14:00 to 17:00 !
There will be
presentations (in German) and
guided tours of the fiber optic drawing tower. All interested (technical) people are invited to take this excellent opportunity to learn more about the fiber optic tower and join the inauguration as well as the apero.
