Quantum Transitional Measures

Due to Switzerland's status as a non-associated third country in Horizon Europe, the Swiss government has mandated the SNSF to launch the Quantum Transitional Call funding scheme. It is aimed at scientists in Switzerland who are excluded from quantum topics of the Horizon Europe call Digital and emerging technologies for competitiveness and fit for the green deal. Proposals will be evaluated by SNSF and successful projects will be funded directly by SERI. The concept and the opportunities for Switzerland will be presented and discussed.

Martin Kern, Scientific advisor at SERI
Martin works as a Scientific Advisor at the European Framework Programmes unit (EURA) at the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). Before joining SERI, he did research in avalanche dynamics at the WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) in Davos and at the avalanches division of the Federal Research and Training Centre (BfW) in Innsbruck. Martin holds a diploma (MS) in physics from Bayreuth University and a PhD in technical sciences from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL).

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
