Biosensing from the visible to the infrared using silicon nitride integrated photonics

Many emerging medical point-of-care applications such as detection of biomarkers for acute blood infection, glucose monitoring and others, require a scalable, low-cost, yet highly performant sensor. Integrated photonics based on silicon nitride leverages a scalable, high volume CMOS compatible semiconductor process that offers many advantages due to its low optical propagation loss and wide transparency wavelength range. The integrated platform enables a multitude of devices, ranging from simple beam splitters to complex dual comb spectroscopy systems.

Dr. Anton Vasiliev received his degree in Engineering (2014) and his doctorate (2020, FWO scholarship) from Ghent University (BE). He worked on integrating optical spectroscopy methods such as FTIR, photothermal- and photoacoustics on a chip in the near- and mid-infrared spectrum. Between 2019 and 2022, he was developing a silicon photonics based system for gas leak detection at IMEC (BE). He joined Ligentec in 2023 as project manager with a passion for sensing applications

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
