We are pleased to announce and invite you to one of our weekly online zoom events.
Low-loss gallium nitride integrated photonics
Gallium nitride, the world’s second most manufactured semiconductor, exhibits advantageous optical properties for photonic integrated circuits but remains relatively unexplored by the R&D community. In our talk, we will discuss the historical limitations of gallium nitride as a photonic material, progress toward C-band microresonators with quality factors exceeding 10^6, and a vision for GaN as a nanophotonic platform
Speaker
Dr. Ian Rousseau, Founder/Director of Hexisense SA
Ian Rousseau is the founder of Hexisense SA, a spin-off from the Advanced Semiconductors for Photonics and Electronics Laboratory at EPFL, where he received his Ph.D. in 2018. Ian received his M.Sc. from the University of Konstanz and B.Sc. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Physics. Hexisense focuses on emerging applications of gallium nitride in sensing and photonics.
Moderator
Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
