Multiscale Simulation of LiDAR Systems using ANSYS Optics

Automotive LiDAR plays a pivotal role in modern vehicles. The use of simulation accelerates the development of LIDAR systems, ensuring its operational accuracy. Moreover, through simulation, LIDARs can be analysed in diverse environmental conditions. Simulation-based analysis also contributes to determining the system’s robustness prior to deployment. This leads to the reduction in time and costs needed to do physical system testing and increases the results predictability. In this presentation, we discuss the impact of optical simulations using the ANSYS Optics portfolio in the context of automative LIDAR. We illustrate how different simulation approaches help address the development challenges of what is a fundamentally multiscale design space.

Dr. Steven Jones, Business Development Manager CADFEM
Steven Jones is the business development manager for optics and photonics at CADFEM, helping clients across Europe to get the most out of their simulation and design efforts. During his career he has worked with simulation for a range of applications incorporating nanophotonics, imaging system design, illumination design, and environmental factors. He holds a Ph.D. from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and obtained his M.Sc./B.Sc. from the University of Victoria in Canada.

Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
