We are pleased to announce and invite you to one of our weekly online zoom events.
PhotonHub Europe: One-stop-shop for SMEs
PhotonHub Europe is a one-stop-shop for SMEs in Europe aiming at spreading photonic technologies in next-generation products. This EU project thus aims at reaching out to many “non-photonic” companies and contributes to the integration of photonic solutions in more and more products. Companies are supported by an impressive network of +500 photonic experts and by the most important key technology providers throughout Europe. In Switzerland, the partners are EPFL with Swissphotonics as a third-party, CSEM and Ligentec. SMEs are supported through small innovation projects of mostly two main types: a) test-before-invest aiming at prototyping, b) upscaling to move towards commercialisation. The project also includes training, support with finding investments and intends to engage national and regional governments.
We will describe the opportunities offered by PhotonHub Europe and how this operates in practice. Specifically, the different steps within the process of an innovation project application will be explained. We will give examples for the typical effort needed for each step and the grant amounts that can be obtained. Furthermore, we will explain the special opportunities currently given for upscaling projects, for which funding has recently been increased to 85% for SMEs.
Speakers

Pierre-Yves Fonjallaz is the delegate of Swissphotonics in Romandy with a basis at EPFL where he is also active as programme manager for EPFL’s research office and supporting the researchers with their EU project applications and the management of their projects. He obtained his PhD in Physics at EPFL in 1995. He then spent 23 years in Stockholm where he worked at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and for the Research Institute of Sweden (RISE) in different positions from researcher to coordinator. He founded and led the national platform PhotonicSweden from 2011 to 2018. Back to Switzerland and EPFL in 2018, he has been active in several EU projects in photonics for Swissphotonics and EPFL such as CARLA, PhotonHub Europe and 360 CARLA.
