We are pleased to announce and invite you to one of our weekly online zoom events.
Laser machining of cylindrical parts
Today’s presentation delivers a practical and forward-looking overview of modern laser processing technologies.
At the forefront of this field, GFH specializes in ultra-short pulse laser machining, with proven expertise in the micromachining of rotationally symmetric components. With a strong foundation in both machining setup and process strategy, GFH ensures high precision, repeatability, and robust process control, key requirements in high-tech manufacturing environments.
Their advanced machine platform offers multiple technologies, including galvo scanner-based machining, cylindrical surface interpolation, and laser turning. This enables the efficient and scalable production of complex micro-scale geometries, offering significant value in both R&D and industrial applications.
Speaker
J. Widmer, CEO Sabato Lasertec AG
Originally trained as a micro-mechanic at the Technical School in Biel, followed by a business administration degree at BFH with a focus on banking and finance. After gaining experience in internal auditing at Swiss Post and serving as Managing Director at Synton AG, Julien co-founded Sabato Lasertec AG with the Sabato family and Mr. Yves Burri in 2022 and currently serves as CEO.
B. Jäggi, COO Sabato Lasertec AG
Originally trained as a polymechanic, Beat earned his master’s degree in Engineering (Industrial Technologies) from BUAS. He worked for several years as a project manager at the Institute for Applied Laser, Photonics and Surface Technology ALPS of the Bern University of Applied Sciences BUAS, focusing on process optimization using ultra-short pulsed lasers. Over the past seven years, Beat led the technical department (applications development and after-sales service) at Lasea Switzerland SA. In early 2025, he joined Sabato Lasertec as COO, bringing with him 15 years of experience in laser micro-machining
Moderator
Dr. Christian Bosshard, Managing Director Swissphotonics
Dr. Christian Bosshard received his degree in Physics (1986) and his doctorate (1991, Silver medal award) from ETH. From 2001-2021 he was working at CSEM, first as Section Head and then as Vice President and Head Photonics. Since 2013 he is Managing Director of Swissphotonics. Christian is a Fellow of Optica, Board Member of EPIC, and Member of the Board of the University of Basel.
